Abstract/NotesThe subpolar Urals, the geological description of which is the subject of this paper, embraces a part of the Ural Range located within 62–66° N. latitude. sh., i.e. from the upper reaches of the river. (Northern Sosva to the headwaters of the Lyapin River on the eastern slope and from the headwaters of the Pechora River to the headwaters of the Khoruta River on the western slope.
Until very recently, the Subpolar Urals remained geologically very poorly studied. The geological map of this region, compiled on the basis of the rare routes of E. Hoffmann, E. S. Fedorov, D. I. Ilovaisky and Gryaznov, could not fully reflect the geological structure of this huge section of the Ural Range and at the same time, of course, could not satisfy those demands of industry that in the post-revolutionary period began to be presented to the polar regions of the Urals in connection with the discovery of very valuable minerals here, especially rock crystal deposits.
