Abstract/NotesTin-bearing griesen veins occur in highly acid granite intruding Permian sediments at Elsmore, near Inverell. Tertiary sediments, also tin-bearing in part, and basalt overlie the older sediments and the granite.
A geological survey of Elsmore Hill and its immediate environs has revealed that extensive areas of tin-bearing granite and griesen, suitable for larger-scale, open-cut mining are not likely to exist. Nor do the Tertiary sediments appear to offer any prospects of large-scale mining.
