Abstract/NotesThe paper reports an assemblage of microfossils from the Guddadarangayanhalli Formation of the Chitaldrug Schist Belt. The organic fossils discovered are the oldest fossils from India and they are coming from an age group of 2000-1400 m.y. The assemblage consists of Sphaeromorphitae and Netromrophitae of the Group ACRITARCHA Evitt, and cuticular remains (Spongiophyton Kraeusel). Forms referable to Protoleiosphaeridium Timofeev, Leiosphaeridium Timofeev, Leiofusa Eisenack and Deunffia Downie and/or Bacisphaeridium Eisenack are identified. The scope for refining the stratigraphy of the Archaean Complex is pointed out.
