Plain TextReyner, M.L., Pitman, R.K. (1953) Appraisal of some copper mines in the Burra district. - Report No. 35-49. Geological Survey of South Australia .
Abstract/NotesNine mines in the Burra district were examined during February, 1953, for their copper potentialities: Karkulto (Royal Mining Company), Karkulto (South Australian Mining Association), Apoinga, Edelweiss, West Burra, Bon Accord, Utica, St Elmo and Princess Royal. Two others, the All Nations and the Burra Consuls, which were listed for examination, could not be located either from information in the literature or from old-timers now living in Burra. The mines are situated within a radium of 15 miles of the township of Burra, about 100 miles north of Adelaide in the Flinders Ranges. They are all fairly easily accessible by means of two wheel drive vehicle, although some of the old roads leading to them have been long abandoned, necessitating travelling cross country on occasion. Summary reports giving locations, references, histories, workings, etc., prepared by Mrs Robin from the available literature on these mines, were found to be exceedingly helpful and have been used extensively in the following descriptions of the individual mines. Surface and underground workings were mapped with Brunton compass and chain where practicable.
