Abstract/NotesThe study area located in Baturappe area of Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi Province, is a hydrothermal mineralization district characterized by occurrence of base metal veins. More than 20 units of quartz-Pb vein in basalt and porphyritic basalt host rocks are outcropped in the area, which are distributed in three zones: Bincanai-, Baturappe-, and Bangkowa- mineralization zones. This study is aimed to characterize the ore mineralization and to elucidate the physicochemical conditions of the formation of the deposit on the basis of ore mineral assemblage and fluid inclusion mictrothermometry. Ore mineral assemblage in quartz-siderite-galena vein at Bincanai consists of galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, tetrahedrite, covellite and polybasite. At Baturappe, pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, bornite, chalcocite, enargite, covellite, tennantite are observed in quartz veins; in addition, fine-grained chalcophanite and coronadite are scattered in the vein; anglesite and cerussite are also identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. Finegrained pyrite, chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite are observed in quartz vein from Bangkowa. From the mineral assemblages, Bincanai zone is characterized by Pb-Zn-Cu-Bi-Ag mineralization, Baturappe zone characterized by Pb-Cu-Mn, and Bangkowa shows weak indications of base metal. Microthermometric study of fluid inclusions in quartz from veins indicate temperature formation of Bincanai vein is about 230 oC, Baturappe vein 260oC, and Bangkowa vein 280oC; with the average salinity of 2.2 wt% NaCl eq. Minimum formation depth is estimated to be located at about 300 m for the vein at Bincanai and about 550 m for the vein at Baturappe, below paleo-water table. Generally, the sulfide assemblages in the three mineralization zones indicate a range from intermediate- to highsulfidation epithermal system. Bincanai and Bangkowa are typically characterized by intermediate sulfidation (tennantite, tetrahedrite, chalcopyrite), and Baturappe is characterized by high sulfidation sulfides (enargite and covellite). Bincanai vein is formed from a hydrothermal fluid with range of sulfur fugacity from about 10-10 to 10-15; Baturappe vein 10-6 to 10-16; and Bangkowa vein 10-7 to 10-14 .
