Abstract/NotesDiscovery of a shallow oilfield in Triassic rocks in a fenland area west of Formby, as described by Lees and Taitt (1946, pp. 307–11), led to an attempt to determine the nature of the local Carboniferous rocks, which were regarded as the most likely primary source of the oil found in the Trias.
