Named in honor of Johann (Johannes, Hans, Jan) Böhm (20 January 1895, Budweis, Bohemia, Austro-Hungarian Empire - 27 November 1952, Prague, Czech Republic) physical-chemist and crystallographer at the University of Freiburg and the German University in Prague who first described it. He was also a photographer.
