Abstract/NotesThe carbonatites of Mer Mundwara and Sarnu in Rajasthan and the Lonar lake of Maharashtra are located on a NW-SE trending straight line. This, when extrapolated further. meets the shore line of the Peninsular Shield of India where it turns sharply from N-S to NE-SW direction. This geometric alignment extends through Mt. Abu pluton, ultramafic bodies of Abu Road and Jobat areas, the Pb-Zn-Cu deposit of Ambaji and Pb-Cu occurrences of a part of Agnigundala belt and a group of thermal springs in Maharashtra. The line is sub-parallel to the join of Precambrian volcanic vent of Mandli and the Newania carbonatite of Rajasthan along the extension of Godavari graben. The empirical pattern signifies that the Lonar is located along a line of possibly deep tectonic significance.
